Flat Daddy, Caitlin and Mrs. Flat Daddy took a trip to Glen Rose TX to see my friend Cindy D - oh yeah and Randy's Family. Actually no offense to my husband's family - but I would have taken the trip to see Cindy D. even if ya'll weren't there!

We had a great time - Flying with Flat Daddy is quite the experience.

1. Flat Daddy doesn't fit through the x-ray machine.
2. KC to Dallas - they hand checked Flat Daddy and gave him the pat down!
3. People in Airports are very friendly when a child is carrying a life sized cut out of their Daddy.
4. Dallas to KC - the Security dude that checked our IDs was GRUMPY and he told us Flat Daddy would NOT make it through security because he wouldn't fit. Caitlin said "he flew here on a plane!"
5. Dallas to KC - he got the wand because he doesn't fit through x-ray.
6. Flat Daddy is guaranteed a window seat!

I was happy for Caitlin - she has been feeling lost without her Daddy and when she took Flat Daddy with her, strangers reminded her of how important her job was and they told HER thank-you for sharing her Daddy.

Family Fun Movie Night at School

The PTO put on family fun movie night with hot dogs, chips and a drink. Oh yeah and MOVIES - Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and Charlie Brown Christmas. It was a good time except - ummm it was at the school and there were TONS of kids there. Don't get me wrong, I love kids - but I do not like bratty running around kids. On second thought maybe it is the parents I don't like so much. It said right on the informational sheet that the PTO sent home, ALL CHILDREN MUST SIT WITH THEIR PARENTS. There is a movie night coming up - we might just have to be busy that night!

Flat Daddy Has Dinner with the St Clair Family

In order to try to give Caitlin a better weekly routine and to help with her emotional adjustment issues, I have given up a regular commitment I have had on Monday nights. For now on Monday evenings for 90 minutes or so we break bread with the St Clair family. Tonight - Flat Daddy went to dinner too!

We had a leftover MRE, so we took it with us tonight for dinner. :) Everyone tried a little bit of everything. FYI - the chili with beans is HORRIBLE! Caitlin was really excited because at Military Kids camp this summer she got to eat MREs so she basically provide the MRE lesson for the evening. You could see the joy beaming from her as she talked about how her Daddy sometimes eats these. Oh the simple things in life!

I enjoy dinner with the St Clair family for a totally different reasons

1. It is very close to home.
2. A great home-cooked meal that I don't have to cook.
3. ADULT Conversation
   
4. They love my husband dearly and they do ask about him - but the genuinely care about us too. They ask how I am doing and what they can do for ME.
   

All of this is just a simple gesture, that means more to me than I can express. Dinner tonight, recharged my batteries.

They also seem to "get it" without having been a military family, they have lived in different cities while he was going to seminary and she was raising 3 children - weekend visits just weren't the same!

Please don't get me wrong there are many kind people out there that do many great things for us. I will keep trying to repay the kindness bestowed upon our family!

Flat Daddy Goes to Walmart

Flat Daddy should NEVER go to Walmart, people stare way too much and ask too many dumb questions.

• Who is that?
• Why do you carry him around?
• Is that really your Dad? Yeah dummy they think this cardboard cutout is their Dad!
• ...odd stare...AWKWARD

The kids though LOVE taking him to Walmart, myself I hate going to Walmart and the thought of having to talk to PEOPLE while I am in Walmart is enough to send me overboard. Oh wait - the idea that I now have to take children with me to Walmart is enough to make me crazy, then add in everything I babbled about above....CALGON. Flat Daddy just doesn't make the cut and when I need to go to Walmart I wish Flat Daddy could just stay home with the kids.

Flat Daddy Goes to Basketball

Saturday, Caitlin, Wyatt, Flat Daddy and I went to go watch Caitlin play basketball at the YMCA. Flat Daddy ended up with a front row seat at the game.




I think Flat Daddy enjoyed the game as much as the kids LOVED showing him off.

Flat Daddy is our substitute Daddy while my husband and our kids' Daddy is deployed with the 1/168 IN Iowa National Guard to Afghanistan.
